Undetected Twins?

How weird is this? My best friend from elementary school went to the hospital to deliver her baby and got the shock of her life. Rather than having one baby, she had two - boy/girl twins! She cried for two weeks and her husband had to go out and buy double of everything. Can you imagine the shock?How could no one have detected twins prior to the birth? She had good prenatal care and even had a sonogram.
How bizarre. I did a Google search and found that 3% of all twin pregnancies are undetected until birth - even with sonograms.
