36 Weeks!
Sunday, January 22, 2006
We finally made it to the 36 week mark, which is when the doctor said she wouldn't stop labor if it started. The funny thing is that I woke up having very light contractions. It was a cloudy, rainy day so I stayed in bed for a good part of the morning. In the shower, I noticed that it was difficult to stand up because I was feeling all this pressure. I kept having to sit down while I trying to fix my hair. By then I was having my regular contractions about five minutes apart and the longer I stood up, the more pressure I felt. I decided this was a good sign (maybe of effacement or dilation) and thought I'd go grocery shopping to keep the contractions going. Of course, Hubby won't let me go anywhere alone at this stage, so I took my mom with me. The longer we shopped, the worse it got. It's kind of like the downward pressure you feel with really bad cramps. Finally at the checkout counter, I started feeling really sick and didn't think I'd be able to drive home. I started thinking that this could really be something, but then I started feeling better and around 6pm, the downward pressure subsided. My contractions are still about 5 to 10 minutes apart, but they aren't painful at all.
I'd better see some progress (more effacement or some dilation) at the next doctor's visit on Tuesday!
UPDATE:
My contractions continued all night and are still there this morning. I was pretty nauseous last night. The contractions are getting stronger, so we're going to call the doctor when her office opens. I know I'm not in labor, but we just want to ask her if I should be having so many contractions for an extended period like this. It's been 24 hours of painless contractions that are mostly 5 or so minutes apart.
Baby seems to be okay. I poke her once in a while (if she hasn't moved recently) to make sure she responds. She always does. I couldn't sleep this morning so I had a long (mental) talk with baby about what awaits her in the outside world, how much we already love her, and that she can join us out here whenever she's ready.

Hloy crap! That sounds like a good sign of things to come! Maybe you'll get your wish after all and be done with being pregnant once and for all (or at least until next time round)...
