Too Much Info

This might be too much info for some of you...I know that you can bleed for a month or so, but since my mother only bead for two weeks; I thought I'd be lucky as well. Especially when I stopped bleeding on Sunday for three days. I stopped wearing pads and was so happy to start feeling normal. But, yesterday, I started bleeding again. And I wasn't just bleeding; I was BLEEDING like I did during the first couple of days home from the hospital. And it wasn't thick blood, it was just pure red blood. On top of that, I hurt like I haven't since I got home. I don't know what happened. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary - except drive Hubby's truck to the dentist office to check on a sore tooth (I wanted to leave the SUV with the car-seat with Hubby in case of an emergency). Maybe the truck ride was too bumpy? I told my mom and she thought maybe it was my first post-partum period. But how can that be if I've been breastfeeding so often? That would really suck because I was hoping to avoid periods for a few months.
I took a Motrin last night and although I'm still bleeding, I don't hurt anymore. I can't wait for this "recovery" to be over. It is defiantly the worse part of childbirth. I just wasn't prepared for how sore and awful I would feel afterwards.
Lilly's cluster feedings seem to have calmed down. For the past two nights, I've been able to feed her for 30-45 minutes and put her right back to bed. It makes a big difference when I can sleep a few hours a night - even if only in 1 hour increments. I've also been taking more naps during the day, which also helps my sanity.
I've been thinking about what caused the cluster-feeding and my theory is that I wasn't eating enough good food. I slacked off for a while and wasn't eating a good variety of protein, whole grains, and all. That was about the same time that Lilly couldn't get enough milk. I wonder if it's related. For the past several days, I've been sure to eat really well balanced and nutritious meals. Could it be a coincidence that she is not asking to be fed as often and when she eats, it doesn't take nearly as long to fill up? Or, it could be that the cluster-feedings increased my milk supply and it is somehow richer?

I have no idea what to do. It sounds like a mess. Bleck. Maybe call your doctor.
(After both of my D&C's I was told I would bleed for a really long time. I never bled. Not even one single day...isn't that weird?!)
I hope you are feeling okay. - At 6:43 PM, Kristin said...

Recovery is hard, but look at what your body just went through! Actually, it's amazing that we aren't crippled for months afterward :)
Even with breast feeding often, you can have on again/off again bleeding. The nurses told me that it's due to the hormone releases when breast feeding. If it looks like too much though, I would check with your Doctor.
It's funny that you mentioned how your supply might be affected by how much you eat. Last night Logan was cluster feeding & so fussy! I thought about it & realized that I hadn't had much water & really nothing to eat but a couple of dinner rolls. I freaked out thinking that I just messed up everything for us by not taking care of myself. Bill made a huge batch of pasta & I drank more water than ever & everything was back to normal this morning.
It was a lesson for me in knowing that even though Logan is taking up an increadible amount of time & energy, I still have to remember to think about taking care of myself. It's all about finding that balance (which I haven't found yet). - At 4:21 PM, Lisa said...

I bled for the first six weeks after childbirth.
When I would try to eat less to lose weight, my milk supply would dwindle. I wasn't able to lose weight for seven months because everytime I would try to cut a bit out, my milk supply would be affected. So wierd.
