I Knew It Was Bad, But Not This Bad
Tuesday, November 28, 2006
I knew we had a screwed up of beauty, but thought it merely consisted of minor air bushing-type touch ups. This video makes me feel so much better about myself. Look at this model! She's completely average and they use makeup and Photoshop to transform her into an image that doesn't even resemble her actual self. They even stretched her neck!
It's too bad society views this altered image of a woman as the standard by which we should all be judged. The ironic thing is that women are the harshest judges of other women. You'd think we would stick together and stand against this sort of thing. Instead, we appoint ourselves the "fashion police" and criticize others who don't match up to an ideal that's impossible for any of us. Where does it end? With companies like Dove, who stand up for the average woman and try to educate us all about real beauty.
Perhaps I need to look at their stock. Or at the very least, buy some of their products.

omg that's just awful!! I knew this kind of thing happened, but actually seeing it take place kinda brings it home just how bad it is! I wonder how the model feels - seeing herself changed - that can't be good for her self-esteem either?!
