Mommy Baby Connection
Friday, February 24, 2006
Before we had Lilly, we worried that I wouldn't be able to hear her cry at night (I don't sleep with my hearing aids). Although I can't hear most of her little squeals, I can defiantly hear her when she gets upset and needs to be fed. Mostly, it's because I'm already awake by that point. We have that mommy-baby connection and as soon as she gets fussy (even though I may not be aware of it), my breasts get all tingly and fill with milk, which wakes me up and sure enough, within 2 or 3 minutes, I can hear her holler for milk. At first, I wondered if I was subconsciously hearing her squeals and waking up. However, the other day at the dentist office, the same thing happened. When I got home, I found out that she got fussy at the same time I was sitting in the chair, thinking that she needed some milk.
Motherhood is the best. Last night Lilly kept me up, cluster-feeding every hour again. I've been eating well, so I'm not sure what the problem was. By morning, I was in tears and just really needed to sleep. I fed Lilly yet again and afterwards, instead of sleeping, she cooed and grinned. Its funny how just a few smiles can make everything better.

The mommy-baby connection is quite amazing. It's like the two souls are so familiar with eachother that you become a mind reader & your body responds without thought. I love it. What a mind blowing experience!

It's not just with babies. Even now, I'll wake up a few minutes before my son will in the middle of the night. If I'm not sleeping well, I have learned that odds are, he isn't either.
It is quite amazing huh. I love that out of everyone in the entire world, I know my little man better than anyone else -- even himself. I'm finally an expert on something. heehee
