Automatic Checkout Lines

On the way home from my Wolf Camera photography class (got to learn how to use this camera before baby arrives), I had to stop and get grapes. I've been out of grapes for nearly 24 hours!
Anyway, that late at night, the only checkout lines that were open were the automatic machines. So, I got in line, which seemed especially long since I was holding all my items. For some strange reason they put away the baskets after 8pm to prevent theft.
The guy ahead of me was rather old so I feel back for complaining about him. But, he scanned his groceries as if the slower he passed each item over the scanner, the less the price would be. I almost went over and showed him how it's really done.
Then I started wondering if I do the same thing. People probably hate to be behind me because I always have a ton of produce and have to enter or look up the codes for each item.
