Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

The Ups and Downs

Last night, I would have told you that we were going to have this baby within a couple of days. Now, I think I'll be lucky if she ever comes out! I'm exaggerating, of course.

Yesterday afternoon, I started have contractions that were 5 minutes apart again. They were more intense and walking around for our official hospital just made them more intense. They lasted throughout the night, but decreased in regularity (it's hard to time them when you're trying to sleep and cover the clock so you despair when you realize you've only been sleeping for five minutes intervals). By this morning, I was just having a few periodic contractions and now they have completely stopped.

I feel different today than I did yesterday. I can feel baby moving very low and in parts that I never felt before. The contractions now feel like they put pressure on my bladder, which is not conducive to a good night's sleep. Oh, and to make matters worse, we taped a trash bag to my side of the mattress (under the sheet and mattress pad) - just in case my water breaks at night. So, now the bed is way to warm. I'm just not getting air circulation, which doesn't really matter since I have to get up every thirty minutes to use the bathroom and am so congested that I can barely sleep for more than 10 minute intervals. At this point I'm quite sure my sleep with improve with an infant if I can just get rid of the sleep apnea and congestion! Until then, it's Tylenol PM every night.

I'm just frustrated. Baby is pressing a bony part against my belly button - you know the part where your abs has separated. I have to keep steady pressure on it or it hurts so badly. I'm miserable and really want to have this baby ASAP!

So, please send some good labor vibes my direction...

I so know what you're talking about with the belly button. I feel like a dork hangin out with my finger in my belly button all day long. I often joke that Logan is trying to make his escape out that way.

Hang in there with the contractions, I hope they're making great progress for you & a faster delivery!

I logged on this morning totally expecting you to NOT have posted (which would have meant you were busy at the hospital having your baby). But alas, here you are-and not doing so well at that.

I am so sorry that you are miserable. But love that you said having this baby would mean more sleep. I have heard that you get to a point where you feel that way. I guess that means you are really close (as if you didn't know that).

Please, please keep us updated!

Ugh! I feel your pain.

This morning, I begged the midwife for recommendations to get things going for me, and am now on a combo of evening primrose oil & black cohash supplements, plus raspberry leaf tea.

She also suggested inserting 3-4 evening primrose oil capusules at night, to help soften the cervix.

Good luck!!!

Yep, it sound like it's time to try some natural inductions to see if this baby will come before your planned induction. I think Liza covered most of them except the sex one. Apparantly there is a hormone in sperm that can soften and ripen that cervix of yours and hopefully start labour. That is of course, if sex is even an option for you at this point...

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you and hoping this baby comes early...

Trash bag, hm...not a bad idea. We were thinking about getting a waterproof sheet because as hubby says "we paid too much for this mattress to ruin it!!"

I'm using the wool crib "puddle pad" under our regular mattress pad, plus a gargantuan extra-long-with-wings maxipad at night, in my effort to keep from ruining our mattress.

I figure that Smudge doesn't need it yet. ;-)
