Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Passover Table Decor

We have about two weeks until passover. I've spent the last several days shopping for tableware, decorations, and Kosher for Passover food. It doesn't sound like a big deal but when you consider I have to buy 200+ plates/bowls, more pans, serving platters, water pitchers, wine, etc... It all adds up. Thank goodness for IKEA, right? They have some pretty darn good tableware for .49 - .79 cents each. At that price, it just makes since to buy plates rather than cheapen the occasion by serving everyone on paper plates and making them use plastic utensils and cups. Nope. We're going to do it right (and not think about how long it will take to clean up).

I've been stressed out about the table decor. It's important to me that the table looks really nice. Every fall we attend a very fancy Rosh Hashannah party at a friend's house. They spend the entire year planning the party and go all out. Everyone always talks about how she outdid herself and how beautiful it was. I'd really like to do something similar even though I could never really compare with her dinners.

Passover food is not very good. In fact, some of it is downright uneatable. I cannot stand gefilte fish, chopped herring, chopped liver and such. So it's important that the table look as beautiful as I can make it. I have a vision of what I want, but that only works if you can find the stuff at a store. I checked Pier 1, Bombay, World Market, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, William Sonoma, the Great Indoors, Wal-Mart and some speciality french kitchen store. Between all of those, I finally found the various things I needed and the table looks awesome. It's not quite what I envisioned, but it's close enough. So, now I need to return the stuff that didn't quite achieve the right look and buy more of what did (we need enough for four tables).

Here's what it looks like so far. There is only one place setting because I haven't purchased the remaining dishes from IKEA yet. Until now I was in the process of bringing stuff back from various stores and playing with the set-up.

I just adore the fruit centrepiece! Is there a particular reason why there is a green colour scheme? It looks good!!

I was aiming for something springish while avoiding easter colors.

Thanks for the GREAT idea of Ikea!Probably as cheap as plastic and much classier. I have to set for 8 tables of 8 for a Church! It's for a teaching Seder to help Christian's understand that the Last Supper was a Seder not an Easter Supper with ham!
