Nursery Obsessions
Tuesday, December 13, 2005
I have been completely obsessed with the nursery for the past few days. On Saturday afternoon, I went back to IKEA to pick up some things I didn't get on the first trip. I found out that the pink wardrobe was not only out of stock, but that it was being discontinued! They refused to sell me the floor model. I was told that they had 18 left in Houston, but when I called Houston, they said they would not ship it to the Dallas store or to me personally. We have family in Houston but they are out of the country for the month so I couldn't ask them to pick it up for us.Finally, I decided this wardrobe was cute enough to warrant a day trip to Houston (4.5 hours each way). Because the Dallas store manager told me that she could sale 18 in one day, I decided I had to get it now! After all, it just makes the room so delightful. Hubby thought I was crazy, but didn't mind if I drove to Houston as long as I didn't go alone. So, I printed out a map and my mom and I drove to Houston at 2:30 in the afternoon. This whole thing didn't seem like as good of an idea on the way back because it was so late and we were both so exhausted. But, I have the wardrobe and it was totally worth all my efforts to get it.
Yesterday, I spend the day sewing a crib bumper, dust ruffle, and curtains (they weren't long enough so I had to extend them). I am not a detail-oriented person so most of my "projects" are disasters, but shockingly all three items turned out exceptionally well. Hubby said they look totally professional! I have a little more work to do on the curtains today, which shouldn't take long. Then, I can go ahead and start arranging the room, putting her little clothes away, and putting up pictures and wall decorations! I ordered a white crib from BabyCenter, which should be here in the next few weeks.

TOTALLY, TOTALLY worth it. I would have done the same. And I would have done it immediately, too.
