Dallas Arboretum

My mom and I took Lilly to the Dallas Arboretum this afternoon. I thought her neck muscles were sufficient to hold her head up in the carrier and didn't need someone to sit in the back with her, but when we arrived, I found that her little head had rolled forward and to the side! I freaked out and thought, "Ohmygosh, I'm a terible mother"! She was fine though and my mom sat in the back with her on the way home. We started off with a stop by the cafe. It's shocking how many people will cut in front of you when you are in line with a stroller! We let two couples cut in front of us and when the next person tried, my mom put an end to it. It was obvious we were in line. I don't know what they were thinking!!
Anyway, it was the second time I had taken Lilly out. I didn't even realize I was scared of not knowing how to take care of her until she started fussing and I had a moment of panic. I picked her up and gave her a pacifier. She calmed right down.
Half way though the walk, I started wondering if I should feed her. I'm a little nervous about breastfeeding in public, but I bought a nursing bib and decided that I would not be embarrassed about it. I thought Lilly might need some milk because it was 85 degrees out and I was quite warm, but she was sleeping soundly and my mom said she was fine. I should have trusted my instincts though. I think she got too hot because when we got home, an hour later, I fed her (she didn't start fussing until we pulled onto our street) and she immediately spit it all up. She spits up occasionally, but it's never much. This time she must have spit up half or all of her meal. Poor girl. I felt really bad and next time I'll listen to my instincts. Actually, we live in a VERY hot climate, so I'll just be more careful about taking her outdoors - especially when she's so tiny.
I tried to put her in the Baby Bjorn carrier this evening. She hated it. I should have known because she hates anything tight. She will scream bloody murder if you put a hat on her head (unless it's after a bath). We haven't even been able to swaddle her since she was about 5 days old (it took us that long to figure out that she didn't like to be swaddled). I am an excellent swaddler, but Lilly started sleeping much better when we just wrapped her very lightly in a soft micro fleece blanket to sleep. So much for the swaddlers, receiving blankets, and sleep sacks. At least she's happy and we're all sleeping better now. In fact, Lilly has sleep for a 4 hour stretch for the last three nights! I feel almost human when she does that!

Awww... that's great that you got out!! Shepherd totally hates to be swaddled too, and prefers to lay sprawled out hands high up in the air.

Do you have one of those extra headrest things? We got one as a gift and I'm trying to figure out if they are useful.
