What Have I Gotten Myself Into?
Tuesday, January 09, 2007
I'm planning two birthday parties. One will be a family party and the other is a joint party with the babies born within in a few days of eachother from our playgroup. I have this new fantastically big house, right? So, when they needed a place to have the party and no one could do it at their house, I voluenteered our house.
Oh boy. I had no idea I was volutenteering to host 22 babies and 50 adults! Now I have to think of games. First of all, they are one year olds. What kind of games do one year olds play? I only thought of one so far - which is to have all the guests bring a baby picture of themselvs and have everyone guess who's picture belongs to whom.
I need some more game ideas...

Sounds great and right up my street!! I appreciate how hard it is though - I have to plan activities for 6-9 month old babies each week and it's damn hard sometimes being imaginative ;o)
Can you hire a colourful parachute for them to play with - you know the ones I mean? We had one at our Christmas party and the kids loved it once I showed them how to shake it up and down!
Also how about arts and crafts type things or would that be too messy?? Like perhaps having paper and crayons around and having a craft area?
I'll keep on thinking for you ;o) - At 8:04 AM, Avorie said...

Hmmm.... Yeah, I think we can get a colorful parachute. But I don't think they can do crafts yet. Lilly just eats crayons at this point.

Oh we do crafts from the age of 6 months - but it's true - it does take a lot of attention on your part to keep things out of mouths!! Maybe not the best idea for such a hectic party lol
Can you perhaps wrap some of the presents in big empty boxes which the children can then play with - they love wrapping paper and boxes - the best part of the present, so some of them tell me ;o)
Does Lilly like singing? Perhaps you could get some toy animals and sing Old McDonald with them, and get a toy bus and sing the wheels on the bus etc... - At 5:46 AM, said...

Holy Balls of Poop. What were you THINKING? 22 babies? Seriously.
I like the parachute idea-- they sell them on Amazon. We use them at a music class for Jojo, and the kids throw balls on top to watch them bounce all around/chase them while the parents (and some kids) help shake the parachute. Otherwise, I have no idea for games for 1 year olds. Dude.
Good luck!! I can't wait to hear about what happens! Make sure you try to take a big ass group picture of 22 babies. That's a game in itself! - At 7:58 AM, liz said...

I'm not too far off from planning my own birthday party... we're doing a joint party with a friend who's just a few days younger than Henry. And we're having it at the local bakery owned by another friend's Daddy. But the kids are probably too young to enjoy decorating their own cupcakes?
What about music together? Do you have a bunch of instruments that the kids can play with? Egg shakers? Tambourines? Hand drums? The kids LOVE the noise!
Good luck--I'll be sure to check back to see how you're feeling and how the plans are progressing! - At 2:04 PM, said...

Hmm... All I can say is GOOD LUCK!!!
Kira loves playing chasies, (though usually tries running and ends up face planting so could be a little bit dangerous unless you have all the parents in on it), and she loves dancing as well so maybe some music?
Really though, don't go too mental over it. They're one year olds which means that anything they do for longer than 10-15mins is going to wear them out pretty quickly and if you're not careful you'll have a house full of sleeping toddlers. LOL. Good luck and have lots of fun!! :) - At 5:30 PM, Angela said...

Perhaps spin the bottle? Get it? babies = drink bottles
See?
This is exactly why I don't host parties. I'm not as much fun as I think I am.
