We Have a One Pounder!

At 21 weeks, 3 days, baby is now 1lb 1oz and is almost 11 inches long! She's becoming more and more real each time I see her. This morning I went down to my sonographer friend's classroom to have her scan baby's kidney's. At first she thought baby's kidneys were enlarged because the urine in the bladder wasn't draining and it had backed up into the kidneys. So, she took a bunch of measurements and gave me the grand tour of baby while we waited for her to empty her bladder. She told me to lay off the water a bit because baby's having a bit of a difficult time emptying her bladder. I should still drink plenty, but don't overdo it.
After baby changed positions several times and finally emptied her bladder, we took the measurements all over again. The kidneys were the same size, so the enlargement is not due to a backup from the bladder. My friend had just taken a fetal kidney seminar and said she would compare the numbers and call me with whatever she found out. She's also going to do some research about the kidney issues related to BOR Syndrome, which baby has a 50% chance of getting from me.
The bottom line is that baby seems to have hydronephrosis, but that everything else seems to be perfect. So, we'll talk with the perinatologist next Tuesday and see what she says. Apparently the kidney's develop and change through 33 weeks of pregnancy, so we'll probably have sonograms every month to check on them.
I just feel better knowing that baby's kidneys didn't have a blowout, causing her to loose amniotic fluid and dry out over the past week. Irrational, I know. What can I say?
