Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Name Game

We've been discussing names since the 16 week ultrasound, when the baby became very real to both of us. Trevor has a big family and everyone has an opinion about the baby's name. Most everyone agrees that we have to name her Sara because it's Trevor's only grandparent who hasn't had a descendant named after her. The problem is that I don't like the name Sara. It's too popular. Besides, I'd rather give her a special name that is her own, not one that fulfils an obligation.

Last week we came up with the name Emily and decided we'd call her Emmy as a nickname. I could really see her as an Emily. I knew it was popular, but had no idea it was the number one name in 2002. That's way too popular. So, today we found the name Lilly and thought about naming her Lillian and call her Lilly for short. Her Hebrew name could be Lilis.

Lilly is particularly suitable because if we're going to follow the Jewish tradition of naming a baby after a deceased relative, then we could name her after my aunt Lilly, who died of a heart condition in infancy. I know I just said that I'd rather not name her after anyone, but does it count if the person didn't have a chance to live her own full life? Hopefully it won't give the baby any bad karma... Maybe I need to think that one over again.

We're going to end up with a list of three or four names and when she's born we'll decide which name fits her. So far, the list contains Emily and Lillian.
