Donating Blood?
Sunday, November 13, 2005
Someone called to see if we would be interested in donating blood on December 18th. Hubby didn't want to tell her no, so he handed the phone to me. I politely told the woman that I didn't think I could because I am pregnant. She congratulated me and asked if Hubby would be willing to donate blood. Of course he ran off, so I had run all over the house looking for him, while the patient woman waited for an answer, which was no (he immigrated in the 80's and isn't eligible).Later, Hubby and I were wondering if pregnant women can donate blood and he came up with the funny scenario in which a pregnant woman donates blood that causes the donor to falsely test positive in a pregnancy test.
I googled it, but didn't find any details on that scenario, only that pregnant women aren't supposed to donate blood.
According to the American Red Cross:
"Persons who are pregnant are not eligible to donate. Wait 6 weeks after giving birth."

Oh my gosh, I can just see some 17 year old football player testing postive on a pregnancy test. Too funny.
One more "positive" for being pregnant, getting out of donating blood! (although I have been pricked more in the last 5 months then in the last 5 years!)
