Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Hypnobirthing?

The regular prenatal yoga instructor was out of town so she sent a hypnobirthing coach to teach the class. As it turns out, that was the best yoga class I could have imagined. She was really good and I felt like I got a lot out of it.

I've been watching these birth shows on Discovery Health every once in a while and they totally freak me out! I can't believe that will be me in 14 weeks! I don't know if I'm more afraid of the embarrassment or the pain.

After meeting this woman and experiencing her yoga class, I'm considering the hypnobirthing classes. Not because I buy into this theory that you can hypnotize yourself into a pain-free birth, but because I think it might be able to teach me how to relax when I'm really scared. The problem is that the classes are on Tuesday nights, which will interfere with our childbirth classes that will also be on Tuesday nights in December. I could probably schedule them for a different day but Hubby wasn't too excited about the idea of hypnosis and would rather I look into relaxation therapy. He thinks I'm so small that I'll end up having a c-section anyway.

Even if I did have a c-section, I would probably have to endure hours and hours of painful labor, so the more tools I have at my disposal, the better. And I'd really rather not have a c-section. I guess I'll look into hypnotherapy a bit. Regardless, I'm going to see if this woman teaches prenatal yoga on a regular basis. I'd much rather take her class than the other one.

Maybe I'll order the childbirth hypnosis DVD and CD's from mychildbirth.com. It wouldn't hurt and it's half the price of taking the real class. But then, sometimes you get what you pay for and maybe taking the class would be better. On the other hand, maybe the whole thing is a crock.

I figure anything that may help you is good, right? You never know what your labor and delivery is going to be like, so you might as well be prepared.

And small women delivery babies without c-sections all the time.
