Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

The New Dos

Susie, the cat, and I went for haircuts today. I dropped him off at the vet and then went to Toni & Guy for my haircut. I've been feeling soooooooo ugly and just needed something new.

On the way back from my appointment the vet's office called to say that Susie was misbehaving and they couldn't finish shaving him. They had to quit when they got to his back legs and wanted me to authorize sedation so they could finish. If I had the average cat, I would never dream of being able to shave him without sedation, but this cat is not your normal cat! You can do anything to him and he doesn't even fight baths. So, I told them that I wouldn't sedate him, but that I would come by and hold/comfort him while they finished. Apparently they don't let owners attend a grooming because it creates a liability should the cat scratch me. Who are they kidding? I own the cat so of course I've been scratched before and if I'm willing to hold the cat while he gets shaved and wave their "liability" then I should be able to!

I decided to pick him up with the intention of dropping him off for round 2 tomorrow. So, I get ready to pay the bill and they try to charge me 40 bucks for my half-shaved cat. The normal price is 35, which I was sure to point out. So, the assistant went to get the vet, who told me that he upped the price because it takes so long to shave a cat. I can't really complain as the next cheapest place in town in 70 dollars and we shave him about every 6 weeks. So I paid 40 bucks and took my baby home.

When I let him out of the carrier, I expected to see a half-shaved cat. Does this cat look half-shaved? No, he doesn't. He's sporting the exact "lion cut" that I asked for. There is a little spot of hair near his privates that is not shaved. Do I care? No. If I were Susie, I wouldn't want a shaver going near my privates either!

It kind of makes you wonder if they were trying to get an extra 20 bucks from me for sedation services when it was totally unnecessary.

I think your cat look great. And I am very impressed that he will let them shave him. Everytime we take Preston in to the groomers they call me and say to pick him up because he is freaking out. I always have to pay the full amount (over $50.00) and they usually haven't even bathed or combed him.

Maybe vets/groomers are the new mofia, just trying to shake us down.

That sounds horrible to sedate a cat just because they want to shave a square inch of crotch hair!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!
