Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Childbirth Class: Part 2

Last night we went to part 2 of our childbirth classes. We watched a video of natural childbirth where the woman suffered so much that I was in tears just watching it. During the well-placed break, after the video, I told Hubby that I didn't think I could do this after all. Surprisingly, I was the only one in the class who was crying!

The next video was about Epidurals, which was soooooooo much better. The woman only seemed to really suffer at the end. So, I told hubby that I wanted my epidural in the parking lot.

In the first video, the woman didn't even have her clothes. She was just out there for everyone and their dog to see! That's half of what scares me about labor. I'm a rather modest person when it comes to things like that! The second video showed the mother draped so that you really couldn't see anything. I told Hubby that I wanted to be draped that way. He said he'd take care of it.

After both video's the childbirth instructor started telling us that you can't have an epidural if you have x conditions, including any spinal abnormality. Not good news! I have a 30 degree curve in my back. So, I asked her about scoliosis and she that they won't do an epidural if you've had surgery (I have not) or if the curve is bad and at the bottom of your back (mine is). So, I won't know if I can have an epidural until I'm in labor and the anesthesiologist evaluates me!!

*hug* There are other medications out there for pain, so no worries... You'll be FINE :) But I'm with you on the whole cover me up, I don't want to be exposed thing :)

Try not to worry about that so much...the hospital will take care of you :) I think the childbirth classes are great, but they have to show you every aspect of labor and childbirth, so you sort of get bombarded with a lot of information in a short amount of time! DEFINITELY write out a childbirth plan with all your requests on paper!

What? I am sure they can figure something out for you. I mean, you shouldn't have to suffer that kind of pain. Here's hoping you get what you need.

And for being modest...if that is what you want the hospital will support you.

I thought you were taking hypno birthing classes?? Just remember, labour is really such a small part of this whole wonderful beautiful amazing journey and it only lasts one day. You are going to be just fine...
