Baby Naming
Sunday, March 05, 2006

We had Lilly's baby naming ceremony today. Instead of doing it at the synagogue, we opted for a simple yet intimate ceremony at home with our closest friends and family. It was really wonderful. Our Rabbi has a way of making lifecycle events so meaningful.

Hubby had to say a few words of why we picked the Hebrew name of Hannah (hebrew variation of her middle name, Anne). He told everyone that he picked Hannah because she was a barren women in the bible who had to wait a long time to have a child, Samuel, whom she dedicated to the temple and then went on to have many more children. Hubby went on to say how the story resonated with him because he was single for so long before he met me and we had Lilly. He wanted to name Lilly after Hannah to sympbolize our long wait for her and in hopes that she will grow up and have a fulfilled life.

I got tears in my eyes listening to him tell the story. Until today I didn't know why he was so stuck on the middle name Anne and Hebrew name of Hannah. All he would tell me was that it came to him in a dream.
Didn't I marry a swett, sensitive guy?
I love being a wife and mother! Lilly is really changing. She's much more alert and focused. She even turns to look at me when I talk and smiles when I kiss her! It's so great!

I read the link about the ceremony and it sounds so lovely. How great to have such a meaningful tradition.
How neat that your hubby had such a beautiful story to share. And one that you didn't know about. Make sure to write down your memories of the day for Lilly. I am sure it will mean a lot to her also.
I'm glad you're so happy. That makes me happy! - At 1:33 PM, said...
