Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Rash Central

The other day, Lilly suddenly broke out in a rash on her face, head, neck, back and arms. To make things even scarier, her diapers turned fluorescent grass green! I freaked and took her to the doctor.

As it turns out the grass-green stools are okay. The doctor thinks the rash is the beginning of seborrheic dermatitis (cradle cap), caused by a possible milk allergy. I had been eating 4-6 Horizon Organic Yogart Smoothies every day. So, I'm eliminating dairy from my diet and we're shampooing her hair with Selsen Blue and putting topical hydrocortisone cream on her face. Poor darling. At least it doesn’t seem to be bothering her. I'm sure it bothers me more than her. It's quite a shock to see your perfect little baby with such a rash on her face.

On a more positive note, Lilly is learning to grab things. In this picture, she's holding her stuffed lion, named Anchovy, by the tail! Won't it be cute if she later drags him around the house by his tail?

Yuck...sorry about the rash and the ugly diapers. Not fun.

But glad it turned out to NOT be something horrible.

And I love the little picture of her. I can't believe how big she's getting.

I completely feel your pain.

There are lots of good suggestions for non-dairy foods, including smoothies, in the comments on my blog from these posts:

Also those "nursing mom" Ensure drinks are dairy free and not too bad, although they're expensive, if you're looking for a substitute for the convenience of a bottled yogurt smoothie.

I'm glad to hear the rash was nothing serious! Though the grass-colored diapers sound intriguing...Ha ha
I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again dang it, you have an adorable baby!!!

We really like Weleda baby creme and California Baby wash. Our daughter also has a milk allergy and I had to completely illimate all milk products -- and there's milk in lots of things! (I actually feel better off of dairy too!)
For the sleep stuff, we really loved "The Happiest Baby On The Block". We swaddled our daughter for months and just kept trying routines until she went to sleep earlier than midnight. :)
