No Wonder...

As you all know, I've been a bit upset about my weight-loss progress. So, tonight I went in search of some tools to help. First off, I found BabyCenter's postpartum weight loss calculator which tells you how many calories you should consume according to your height, age, weight, activity level and weather or not you are breastfeeding. It says I should have 1889 calories per day to get back to a healthy weight. Sounds reasonable, right? Next I went to the new Pyramid Tracker site and entered my food intake for the day. Here's what I ate today (copy/pasted because I'm feeding Lilly and typing with one hand):
YOGURT, FRUIT VARIETY
COLBY CHEESE
CHICKEN BREAST, ROASTED, W/O SKIN
EGG OMELET OR SCRAMBLED EGG
TOAST
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
MACARONI
TANGERINE JUICE
AVOCADO, FRESH
WHITE POTATO, ROASTED, FAT NOT ADDED
CORN, COOKED
APPLE JUICE
Sounds like a decent amount of mostly healthy food, right? Well it adds up to 2668 calories! And this is my food intake as of 9pm! It doesn't include all my snacks that keep me awake while I feed Lilly during the night! That would probably push it over the edge into the high 3,000 range.
I would have met my target calorie level had I not had half a box of girl scout cookies. Thank goodness I finished them off and will not have to face that temptation again. I'm sad to say I've had 5 boxes in the last two weeks! Yikes huh? I have no room to complain. I guess I got used to extra sweets during the pregnancy because I allowed myself to eat anything and everything (except dangerous foods). I guess I was justifying the extra sweets now because I need an extra 500 calories for breastfeeding.
I like the Pyramid Tracker site. You can login and it keeps track of what you eat and how much you exercise. I think I'm going to try it for a while so that I'm aware of what I'm eating.

Heh -- half-boxes of girl scout cookies are my downfall too.
I still have 1/2 box of the coconut, carmel & chocolate AND a box of cafe cookies left. - At 10:16 AM, Kristin said...

Those evil girl scouts. They did the same thing to me. I seriously ate a whole box of thin mints in 2 days & had a whole box of samoas the day before that. Now it's the coke my in-laws left while they were visiting. I should really just pour the rest down the drain.

Evil cookies. I've eaten TOO many lately! A great healthy eating site I LOVE is www.hungry-girl.com. It's so easy to read and she gives GREAT healthy eating tips! One of my main problems is portion control. For example, I'll eat the ENTIRE avacado, plus an entire box of (4-servings!) mashed potatoes for dinner. I've learned to start measuring my food to get a healthier serving size to cut down my calories. I track my calories online on fitday and I was shocked to find I was eating like 3000 a day. No wonder I've gained so much freaking weight! Anyway, keep up the good work!!

I am already worried about the weight loss I'm about to undertake. Seriously, we may have to inspire each other over the internet. Because I'm going to need it.
Keep up your hard work...at least you're trying! - At 3:22 PM, Erika said...

I love that pyramid site, it cracks me up. Go into the part where you have to log in your activities for the day. I did a post about it a long time ago. If I remember correctly, there was an option for "WASHING DISHES" and "WASHING DISHES AT CHURCH"!
