Welcome to my life. As a newish stay-at-home mom, I'm trying to figure out what my life is about. I know I'm a wife and mother, but who am I? This blog is my forum to find out and my therapy...

Someone Should Take My Parenting License Away!

I decided to take Lilly out to the local plant nursery to find some Giant Elephant Ear bulbs (ours froze this winter and rotted). Since she fusses when in her car-seat, I put her in the Baby Bjorn carrier while we shopped. Lilly slept the entire time, all curled up safely on my chest.

When we got back to the car, I sat down in the back seat, next to the car-seat and took her out of the Baby Bjorn. I lifted her up to put her into the car-seat. My eyes were on her feet to make sure I wouldn't bump them on the car seat and I ended up smacking her head against the car roof!!! She let out a howl and I burst into tears, holding her close. She's okay. In fact, she only cried for 30 seconds, but I cried for two hours! It took about 15 minutes for me to convince myself that she was fine (she sat in her car-seat smiling, which helped), but I still cried all the way home, while feeding her, and while watching her sleep in my arms.

I felt like a horrible mother and not at all responsible enough to care for another human being - especially one who is tiny and helpless.

I'm feeling a bit more rational now. Accidents will happen. I'll just have to be more careful with her and find a new way to get her from the Baby Bjorn to the car seat.

Aw. Maybe when she smiled right after, she was laughing at you. "Damn, Mom... watch the head!"

You're a great mommy! Love reading your updates!

Bless your heart. My co-worker slammed her (6-year-old) son's arm in the car door last week (it was totally his fault) and she is still getting over it. Mom, DO YOUR WORST!!

Dang it. I'm sure she understands that you didn't mean to do it.

Yes, things like that are going to happen. And we are going to freak out when they do.

(and her little neck is so cute.)

You sound like you've got it figured out. That yes, accidents will always have a way of happening. (Will you remind me of that when it's my turn?)

Don't feel bad, it could be worse, just ask my daughter:

While vacationing in Florida I was sitting with my Camille on the beach. Tide came in and my sister and I grabbed the carseat she was basking in the sun in to move her quickly away. However, we grabbed the canopy instead of the handle and flipped her into the sand. I felt absolutely horrific for hours!

All of us first time mom's will have a story!
